Knowledge Of Workplace Safety Saves Lives

Workplace safety - it matters what you work with

With an tremendous increase of women in the workplace safety concerns are a major issue these days.

Some employers have a formal safety plan in place, other’s may not. Because there are a huge variety of facilities where women (of all ages, not just over 40) are employed, let’s just take a look at the general safety issues.

What comes to mind of most Americans is probably “9-11”. There should be fire drills and disaster drills set up regularly. What must you do if the fire alarm sounds?

What kind of equipment do you work with every work day? Inspections should be made by the employee and a maintenance engineer to determine the need for recalls, repairs and preventive maintenance.

Do you work with hazardous materials? Do you drive a vehicle on the job? Are the exit doors unobstructed in your office? Is there an evacuation route? What is the smoking policy? A fellow worker passes out on the floor – what should you do?

Do you know basic CPR? Don’t skip this one. I met a lady who was in that situation and could only remember the minimal basics during the crisis but she saved the worker’s life.

Do you know where to quickly access you community emergency contact numbers? Did someone spill coffee on the floor and leave it there? Did you see and ignore it?

When it comes to our work environments, many employees tend to let things slide.

However, it's important to know that as an employee of a specific company, whether you're part-time or full-time, you do possess certain civil rights. This is a subject that everyone who works should get involved with.

The fact is that the more you know about safety in the workplace, the better off you'll be. Take a moment to ponder the safety measures and precautions you already know that your workplace incorporates.

Were you aware that it's your right as an employee of any company to be safe in your work environment?

This is most likely up to the employer, but it's also up to you to be leery and aware of what's going on. The sad reality is that thousands of workers are injured every year in the workplace. Many of these employees are even killed because proper safety measures were not employed.

It's always prudent to make note of any safety hazards present in your work environment.

If you happen to come across some major flaws in the workplace, then it's time to notify a supervisor. Probably the worst thing you can do is say absolutely nothing.

It's crucial to have a voice concerning safety at work.

This is the most effective way for workers to stay safe. Remember to take full advantage of additional sources that offer statistics and laws regarding health and workplace safety.

This knowledge about workplace safety could in fact save your life or the life of a fellow employee.
