Modifying Eating Habits

Let's cut right to the chase about modifying eating habits. Here are the facts:

* No you should not exercise on an empty stomach especially if you hear or feel your stomach growling and rumbling. It means your stomach is empty. Exercising on an empty stomach means you are trying to push your body without the fuel to do so.

Much like driving a car or vehicle, without gas it will not move. Our fuel is food or nourishment. An apple is a good example of good fuel to workout on. It is a carbohydrate that will burn very well for you. A carb will also help to keep your blood sugar stabilized during your workout.

* Energy bars and drinks are alright for occasional supplements but not as a meal replacement. Your body requires real food for sustenance and proper function. Generally you need fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, milk products, bread, cereal and water.

* Do not, I repeat, do not skip breakfast! Breakfast means, break the fast. You have been fasting all night and your fuel is low, your blood sugar is likely to be lower, you may be slightly dehydrated. You body will interpret this as starvation and begin to feed on itself. Do not skip any meals but especially breakfast.

* Be very careful with low carb diets. Before you decide to do that, make sure you understand the purpose of carbs in our diet such as the fuel it provides for our bodies. Protein and fats do not readily or normally function this way. However if you cut carbs your body will try to compensate by breaking down your muscles and some fat to protect itself from any deficits. Please don't do this to your body. Treat it as a temple.

* Do not fall for quick weight loss claims or near starvation diets. Although it's true you must cut calories to lose weight, the absolute minimum calorie intake daily for weight loss is 1200. In addition you must include exercise daily such as walking. If you lose more than 2 pounds a week, increase your calories enough to maintain that 2 pound loss per week.

* Our bodies need water for hydration and 8 glasses per day is usually recommended. Waiting under you feel thirsty is too late--you are already dehydrated.

If you treat your body with respect you will be rewarded with good health and possibly no problems with illness or disease. Remember to treat your body as well as you would a car. You must put gas in it (fuel) and oil among other things, otherwise it will not function and will leave you stranded. Your body will act similarly without properly diet, exercise and care.

It is quite disturbing that some people take better care of their vehicle than their bodies. If you think about it, the human body runs much like a vehicle. We wash and clean it, inside and out; we take care of its mechanical parts. So please treat and take care of your body as well as you do a vehicle.
